Remember forever ago when I said that the kids took their first dip in the pool? I've got the proof!

The first weekend in January we had to travel for a family Christmas, so we figured we would make a weekend out of it. Because nothing says big vacation getaway like a one night stay in a hotel in Iowa in January, right?

Frequently used terms

Apnea - forgetting to breathe

Bradycardia - when the heart slows from around 170 beats per minute to 70-80 beats per minute

Cc - cubic centimeter. How their food is measured. 30 cc's equal one ounce

Cpap - a form of respiration therapy where oxygen is forced into the nose to help keep the lungs semi-inflated

CRP - C-Reactive Protein, is a test which measures a special type of protein produced in the liver that is present during episodes of acute inflammation or infection. The number should be 3 or less.

Extubated - removing a breathing tube from their throat and moving to a less invasive form of respiratory intervention

Intubated - when a breathing tube is inserted down their throat and hooked up to a ventilator. The babies do not need to breathe on their own while intubated

Kangaroo Care - the practice of holding a baby skin to skin with the parents

MRSA - A staph infection that is resistant to most drugs. Something that is taken very seriously in hospitals.

Oscillator - a ventilator that takes around 700 breaths a minute for the babies

ROP - Retinopathy of Prematurity. An eye disease characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth in premature babies.
